create.

a warm welcome to the blog. here is where you can follow my thoughts and musings on the craft of creating a world from words. through the muses and stories, i hope that you'll be able to learn a little more about me. feel free to leave comments on the blog telling me what to improve, or what you liked. happy reading!

my workings, and hellatus.

whoops, sorry. i haven't posted here in about a zillion years.
as you probably know, i've finished the morning star. it's a strange book and maybe, maybe, i'll post lines from it this week. or maybe tonight. if i feel up to it. (i really should, though.)

anyways, i'm working a lot this summer and i'm not really getting that many chances to myself to really read that much or write that much even. hopefully everyone will be excited to know that i am going to try and include writing during college. i'm thinking about minoring in what is called "writing seminars" at johns hopkins. it's a course that prepares students to both write and enjoy writing. i'm really looking forward to it. :)

as you might've seen here, i've had a story revolving around scents mulling around in my brain for a while. i've finally started work on it! ...well, the most work that i've ever done for a story that didn't involve just puking stuff out onto a word document. i've fleshed out scenes between the characters for each of the different scents that are identified. that was actually really fun, and i'm looking forward to working that into the larger framework of the story. i also did rather detailed character sketches so hopefully the two characters don't come across as like... carbon copies of each other. hopefully i can do that well. i also worked out a timeline for the entire thing, so we'll see how that goes.

i have bad experiences with planning my writing. last time i tried planning things out, i think i got way too detailed in the mapping of the story and then was too involved in getting from point a to point b. (i think maybe my overly logical/rational brain took over there and i worked way too methodically from each point. whoops.) but this time i have a good feeling about the story. i think that i've left enough leeway for me to mosey between each "checkpoint" that i've established for myself and therefore i'll be more successful in terms of planning this time. there are some kinda important details (like setting) that i haven't completely set in stone yet. problems will probably ensue, but i'll cross that bridge once i get there.
