there's only so much that can be expressed by one language.
even though the sapir-whorf hypothesis may/not be true (need validation?!), each language has certain unique words that can't exactly be translated easily into another. take this list of words for example. an entire story could be written off of the meaning of some of the words (see juli's story, "saudade.") and then the emotions and meanings of the word could still not be understood.
i'm thinking of taking some language courses over the summer at the uw. maybe i'll learn some untranslatable words. :)
