aside from being based in the junoverse, the story of "the longest recess" comes from a mix of punnery and real life experience.
junoverse.
it is a universe of characters (much like carillion point) where a group of mostly asian students (and one white girl) go through high school together. the junoverse has been created to document the life and times of these students, and their stories. "the longest recess" was based in sort of a canonical relationship that was established between two of the characters, and is an extrapolation of what would happen.

the punnery.
recess is not only the time when the small children cavort on metal entertainment structures but also when courts are not in session. therefore, the longest recess... ah, there is pun. also, it was mainly brought about by a discussion about how the great recession sounded funny when the recess part of recession was considered. aka the banking industry would have to be bailed out because they played on the playground too long (shame on them). and then the playground got worked into the recess aspect. hm.

real life experience.
i'm not going to go into too much detail here because that's a matter for me and only those who already know about it. just know that it helped to make the emotions a lot more real to me.
