moore uses four main things that constitute her style. first is a play on words (pow). second is Lampshading. third and fourth are a mix--they come as The Exception (in case of ignorance) or Extreme Normality (in most cases).
- pow - "in the land of perversities, he had maintained the perversity of refusal" (moore 20).
- Lampshading - "she liked getting her hands on the insides of a thing. it had to do with her childhood" (20).
- te/en - "...the wrenching yet life-affirming death of his great-aunt flora...whose dying word had been 'cripes.'" (22)
- en - "...but the reception was bad because he and breckie lived too close to the empire state building, the waves shooting out over them and missing the apartment altogether" (23).
- en - "he...preferred the bodilessness of it, and started to turn down social engagements" (24).
- te - "'i said, something wonderful. say something about springtime.' 'it is sloppy and wet. it is a beast from the sea.'" (25)
the last case is more of an unexpected answer than The Exception, but it still fits.
